Multiple Hanging Varieties
Repeated die clashes can leave more than one closely spaced transferred trace. The photographs below are genuine CoinData specimens and show why multiple hangings should be attributed from actual die evidence rather than from a schematic reconstruction.
Using the Photographs for Attribution
Do not attribute a hanging variety merely because a line appears near the final date digit. Compare the position, direction and relationship of the raised trace to the numeral and surrounding maple-leaf design. Lighting, wear and die state can change the apparent strength of a genuine clash mark.
